The name doesn’t bother me like it does others and I prefer it over “iTablet” or other earlier guesses out there. After watching Steve Jobs’ presentation I found myself making a quick list of pros and cons for the Apple iPad . . .

Pros:

Simple, easy to use device for common and casual tasks (internet, email, book/magazine reading, etc.)

You have some productivity applications (iWork)

Great book reader (I’d prefer the iPad with backlighting to a Kindle with it’s e-ink – that requires good lighting and has a horrible UI in my opinion)

Wireless

No data contract (month to month)

Large screen

You can dock a keyboard

Great photo viewer (albeit expensive)

Runs all the iphone apps

Good movie player (although only 4:3 dimensions)

Good for presentations (create, edit, and present)

This is a big iPod Touch with some of the experiences better (using applications, reading books, viewing maps, watching movies, web browsing and game playing)

You don’t have to use it on your lap like a netbook

Great battery life

Pretty cheap for a launch price

Cons:

No camera

No phone (although you wouldn’t hold it up to your ear, you should be able to use a bluetooth)

No usb

No media card reader

No HDMI out

No 1080p

No multitasking

No flash (although HTML5 might ultimately kill flash, too many websites use flash today)

No ergonomic typing (without the tethered keyboard)

4:3 screen

No tethering (without jailbreaking it)

It’s still expensive. I’m an early adopter, but I think it’s still too expensive.

Conclusion:

I’m waiting for the next generation. Too many cons on the list and not as many pros as I would have liked for the iPad.

As my sister (crazyamy — yeah it’s one word) pointed out, my name “bevan” is listed in Google 3 million times (that means I’m awesome). What annoys me, however, is how bevan.net lost the top spot in Google since I rolled out this stupid lemming blog after having one of the sweetest websites of all time.

Now I, Bevan, am left having to post meaningless text about bevan in order to get this site back up to the top.

To help me get back to the top (where I deserve to be), please link back to this site with a simple link like this:
bevan

You may also append “is awesome”, “used to be hot 10 years ago”, and “will always be awesome though” to the linked text. Just so long as it has “bevan” in there.
